Who Are the High / Just-as-High / Third (Har, Jafnhar and Thridi)?
Three narrators seated on three high thrones
Hár, Jafnhár, and Þriði
High, Just-as-High, and Third (Hár, Jafnhár, and Þriði) are the three narrators who answer the questions of Gangleri (Gylfi) in Gylfaginning, part of the Prose Edda. Their names mean "High," "Just-as-High," and "Third," and almost all the stories of the Norse gods and the world in this text are told through their words.
In this manga, they sit deep inside a golden hall on three high seats stacked one above another. On the lowest seat is High, who is said to be the king; above him sits Just-as-High; and on the very top sits Third. High sets the rule of the contest: Gangleri will not leave safely unless he is wiser than they are. When Gangleri asks who is the oldest and highest of the gods, the three take turns answering.
All three of these names are listed as names of Odin. For this reason, some interpretations see the three figures as Odin divided into three forms, or as representations of Odin.
