크로프트 제독 (Admiral Croft)란?
켈린치 홀을 빌리는 바다 사나이
크로프트 제독은 엘리엇 집안의 켈린치 홀을 빌리게 되는 해군 소장입니다. 트라팔가르 해전에 참가했고, 그 뒤에는 동인도에서 임무를 맡았던 인물입니다.
저택을 보러 오자마자 이야기를 매듭짓는, 솔직하고 소탈한 바다 사나이입니다. 아내가 웬트워스 대령의 누나여서, 이 인연으로 대령이 근처에 찾아오게 됩니다. 월터 경이 해군을 깔보아도 제독 본인은 전혀 개의치 않는 밝은 성격입니다.
오스틴의 형제 가운데 해군 장교가 두 명 있었고, 그래서인지 제독 부부 같은 해군 사람들은 호의적으로 그려졌다고 알려져 있습니다.
