월터 엘리엇 경은 앤의 아버지로, 서머싯에 있는 켈린치 홀의 주인인 준남작입니다. 자신의 외모와 가문을 무엇보다 자랑으로 여기며, 즐겨 읽는 책이라고는 자기 집안이 실린 준남작 명감뿐인 인물입니다.
사치스러운 생활로 빚이 불어나도 말이나 하인을 줄이는 식의 절약은 받아들이지 않습니다. 변호사 셰퍼드 씨의 능숙한 말솜씨에 이끌려 저택을 세놓고 바스에서 지내기로 합니다. 세입자가 해군 제독이라는 말을 듣고는 해군을 "출신이 낮은 사람이 출세하고, 얼굴도 햇볕에 그을려 망가지는 곳"이라며 깔보지만, 결국 저택을 맡깁니다.
