레이디 러셀
러셀 부인은 앤의 돌아가신 어머니의 절친한 친구로, 엘리엇 집안 딸들의 상담역을 맡아 온 여성입니다. 세 자매 가운데 앤을 가장 아끼며 어머니 대신 지켜봐 왔습니다.
8년 전 열아홉 살의 앤이 재산 없는 해군 장교 웬트워스와 약혼했을 때 "너무 어리고 앞날이 불안하다"며 반대했고, 앤을 설득해 약혼을 깨게 했습니다. 제목 『설득』은 바로 이 일에서 나왔습니다. 이야기 초반에는 빚에 시달리는 월터 경을 위해 현실적인 절약안을 마련하고, 바스에 함께 가는 클레이 부인을 앤과 함께 걱정합니다.
