El marino que alquila Kellynch Hall
El almirante Croft es el contraalmirante de la Marina británica que alquila Kellynch Hall, la casa de los Elliot. Participó en la batalla de Trafalgar y después sirvió en las Indias Orientales.
Es un marino franco y campechano que, nada más ver la casa, cierra el trato. Su esposa es la hermana del capitán Wentworth, y por ese parentesco el capitán acaba llegando a la zona. Aunque Sir Walter desprecia a la Marina, al almirante no le importa en absoluto: es un hombre de buen humor.
Dos de los hermanos de Jane Austen eran oficiales de marina, y se suele decir que por eso los marinos como el matrimonio Croft aparecen retratados con simpatía.
