La señora Croft es la esposa del almirante Croft y la hermana del capitán Frederick Wentworth. Es una mujer enérgica, morena por el sol, que ha navegado muchas veces junto a su marido.
Para Anne, descubrir que es «la hermana de él» supone un gran golpe. La señora Croft le replica a su hermano, que no quiere llevar mujeres a bordo, que «las mujeres también son criaturas racionales». Además, al ver que Anne está cansada después del paseo, la invita amablemente a subir a su carruaje.
Algo poco común para su época, aparece como una mujer que cruza los mares de igual a igual con su marido, y el matrimonio Croft muestra en la novela una pareja ideal.
