전국시대 무장 줄거리

「전국 사무라이 열전 ―천하를 건 사나이들―」은 일본 전국시대의 명장면을 당시의 기록을 바탕으로 한 화씩 만화로 그린 시리즈입니다. 오다 노부나가의 가신 오타 규이치가 쓴 『신초코키(信長公記)』와 다케다 가문의 전투와 전승을 모은 『고요군칸(甲陽軍鑑)』 등을 토대로 하고 있습니다.

제1화는 '큰 바보'라는 소문이 돌던 젊은 오다 노부나가와 '미노의 살무사'라 불린 장인 사이토 도산이 쇼토쿠지에서 처음 만나는 이야기입니다. 도산은 노부나가의 행렬을 몰래 엿보고, 괴상한 차림새와 강한 군세에 놀랍니다. 그런데 회견 자리에는 예복으로 갈아입은 노부나가가 나타났습니다. 제2화는 1560년의 오케하자마 전투입니다. 이마가와 요시모토의 대군이 다가오기 전날 밤, 노부나가는 작전도 말하지 않고 잠이 듭니다. 새벽에 몇 안 되는 수행원만 데리고 성을 뛰쳐나가, 갑작스러운 비가 그친 뒤 요시모토의 본진을 덮쳐 그를 쓰러뜨렸습니다.

제3화와 제4화는 1561년의 제4차 가와나카지마 전투입니다. 다케다 신겐의 군사 야마모토 간스케는 군을 둘로 나누어 우에스기군을 앞뒤에서 협공하는 '딱따구리 전법(기쓰쓰키 전법)'을 생각해 냅니다. 그러나 우에스기 겐신은 그 움직임을 꿰뚫어 보고 밤사이 산을 내려왔습니다. 안개가 걷힌 하치만바라에서 다케다의 본대는 우에스기의 전군과 마주칩니다. 신겐의 동생 노부시게와 간스케가 전사하는 격전 속에서, 이름을 밝히지 않은 기마 무사가 신겐의 본진으로 달려들었습니다. 만화에서 창작한 부분은 각 화의 해설에서 원전과 비교해 소개하고 있습니다.

  1. 제1화The Day the Viper Stopped Laughing — Nobunaga Meets Saitō Dōsan at Shōtoku-ji

    만화 줄거리Young Nobunaga is the laughingstock of the land—"the Big Fool." Saito Dosan, the old warlord they call the Viper, married his daughter off to him, and now he wants to see the groom with his own eyes. One peek at the procession from a roadside hut, and one quick change behind a temple folding screen, wipe the smile right off the old man's face.

  2. 제2화45,000 Were Coming. Nobunaga Went to Sleep. — Battle of Okehazama

    만화 줄거리On the night an army of 45,000 closes in, 27-year-old Oda Nobunaga ignores his retainers' pleas to hold the castle, makes small talk about swallows, and goes to bed. At dawn he dances "Fifty years of a man's life" and bolts from the castle. Past retainers trying to stop him and allies falling in battle, he pushes forward—and in the instant the storm breaks, he shouts: "Charge!"

  3. 제3화The Perfect Plan, Betrayed by Dinner Smoke — Battle of Kawanakajima (the Woodpecker Gambit)

    만화 줄거리The enemy won't come down from the mountain, so the strategist Kansuke plans to drive them out with a "woodpecker" trick. But the enemy commander saw through it from one thing: the cooking smoke rising from the castle at suppertime. When the fog lifts, the whole enemy army is standing right in front of him.

  4. 제4화Who Was the Rider Who Struck the Warlord? — Battle of Kawanakajima (Shingen vs. Kenshin)

    만화 줄거리Kawanakajima, autumn 1561. The fog lifts, and the entire Uesugi army is right in front of them. As word comes that Shingen has lost his brother and his strategist, he still won't leave his camp stool. Then a rider who never gives his name charges straight into the command camp.

  5. 제5화새벽까지, 홀로 성을 지켜라 ―가네가사키 퇴각전(가네가사키 전투)―

    만화 줄거리이틀 만에 성 두 개를 함락하고 들뜬 진영에 집안사람이 배신했다는 소식이 날아들고, 군은 순식간에 앞뒤가 막힌다. 주군 노부나가가 산길로 빠져나가기로 했을 때, 텅 빈 성에 남겨진 사람은 주군이 제 이름을 기억해 주길 바랐던 작은 사내 도키치로였다.

    원전에서는이 화의 바탕은 오다 노부나가를 모신 가신 오타 규이치가 남긴 『신장공기』입니다. 겐키 원년(1570) 대목을 보면, 노부나가는 4월 20일 교토를 떠나 사카모토를 지나고, 와카사의 구마가와와 사가키를 거쳐 25일에 아사쿠라 가문이 다스리던 에치젠의 쓰루가에 들어섭니다.
