Who Is Zephyr (the West Wind)?

The West Wind who carries Psyche

Zephyrus

Zephyr is the god of the west wind in Greek mythology, a gentle breeze that brings the spring. He is called Zephyrus in Latin and Zephyr in English.

In the story, he lifts the trembling Psyche from the mountain rock by filling out the folds of her robe, and gently sets her down on the flowers of a valley. Later, following her husband's orders, he also carries her sisters from the crag to the palace when they come to visit. It is thanks to the West Wind that the sisters are able to visit the palace again and again.

In the original text, Zephyr never speaks; he simply serves as a carrier. This device of being "carried by the wind" takes on an important meaning later in the story as well.
