Who Is The Second Sister?
The sister who schemes alongside the eldest
The Second Sister is the younger of Psyche's two sisters, and like the eldest, she has no name in the original text. Following her older sister, she married the king of another country.
When she sees her sister's happiness at the palace, she burns with jealousy just like the eldest sister. She laments that her husband is bent over with a joint disease and that she lives more like his nurse than his wife, and she plots with her older sister. Together they teach Psyche a plan: light a lamp over her sleeping husband and kill him with a razor.
In the original story, the two sisters visit the palace several times, and each time their words for leading Psyche astray grow more cunning. Later, the sisters pay the price for their scheming.
