Who Is Charles Musgrove?

Mary's good-natured, hunting-loving husband

Charles Musgrove is the heir to the Musgrove family of the Great House at Uppercross and the husband of Anne's sister Mary. He is a good-natured young man who loves hunting.

In fact, he once proposed to Anne and was refused. He then married Mary, which made him Anne's brother-in-law. He struggles with Mary's dramatic ways and sometimes grumbles about them to Anne. He quickly becomes friends with Captain Wentworth, and the two go out shooting together.

The novel says little about why Anne turned down his proposal, but it suggests that Wentworth was still in her heart.
