Who Is Mary Musgrove (Mary Elliot)?
Anne's complaining youngest sister
Mary Musgrove is Anne's younger sister and the third daughter of the Elliot family. She is married to Charles Musgrove, heir to the leading landowning family of Uppercross, and they have two little boys.
She is quick to claim she is unwell and send for Anne, but once Anne arrives she perks up and pours out complaints about her husband and his family. As a baronet's daughter, she insists on her proper place and rank, which keeps causing small quarrels with her in-laws. She is also the one who innocently repeats to Anne exactly what Captain Wentworth said about her.
She is self-centered and noisy, yet hard to dislike, and she brings much of the comedy to the story.
