Who Is Lakshmana (Laxman)?
The younger brother who follows Rama like a shadow
Lakshmana is the half-brother of Rama, the hero of the Ramayana. He is the son of King Dasharatha and his third queen, Sumitra, and the twin brother of Shatrughna. Devoted to Rama from childhood, he is known as the loyal younger brother who follows him wherever he goes.
In Episode 1, Lakshmana takes up his bow and joins his brother on the journey led by the sage Vishvamitra. He stands at Rama's side in the fight against the rakshasas (demons), and together they protect the sage's ritual. In the original epic, at the end of the journey in Mithila, he marries Urmila, Sita's younger sister.
Later, when Rama is banished from the kingdom, Lakshmana follows him into the forest without hesitation. His unwavering loyalty has made him a model of brotherly love.
