니조 황후 (후지와라노 다카이코)란?
옛 남자가 사랑한 신분 높은 여인
니조 황후는 훗날 세이와 천황의 비가 되어 요제이 천황을 낳은 후지와라노 다카이코를 가리킵니다. 『이세 이야기』에서는 젊은 시절의 그녀가 옛 남자의 사랑 상대로 그려졌다고 여겨집니다.
제1화 「아쿠타가와」의 여인은 저택 깊숙한 곳에서 자라 밤의 들판도 이슬도 모르는 아가씨입니다. 남자에게 이끌려 나와 풀잎 위 이슬을 보고 「저건 뭐예요?」 하고 묻지만, 곳간 안에서 자취를 감춥니다. 원전 뒷부분에서는 이것이 니조 황후의 젊은 시절 이야기이며, 오니란 사실 여인을 되찾아 간 오빠 후지와라노 모토쓰네와 구니쓰네였다고 밝혀집니다. 제8화 「달은 옛 달이 아닌가」에 나오는 서쪽 별채의 여인도 다카이코라는 것이 통설로, 정월에 남자의 손이 닿지 않는 곳으로 옮겨 가 버립니다.
옛 남자와 다카이코의 사랑은 신분 차이로 갈라진 사랑으로서 『이세 이야기』 가운데서도 특히 유명한 이야기입니다.
