Who Is Jacob Grimm (Brothers Grimm)?
The elder Brother Grimm, a linguist
Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm
Jacob Grimm (1785–1863) was a German linguist and the elder of the Brothers Grimm, who collected Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Together with his younger brother Wilhelm, he gathered folktales passed down by word of mouth across Germany. In 1812 they published the first volume of Children's and Household Tales — the book known today as Grimm's Fairy Tales. In this manga, Jacob appears in the framing scenes at the beginning and end of each episode. He is portrayed as the older brother determined to preserve the fading old tales "in the storytellers' own words," but he does not appear in the tales themselves.
He also left a major mark as a linguist. He is known for explaining a law of sound change in languages (Grimm's law) and for the great German Dictionary (Deutsches Wörterbuch) he began with his brother.
