Who Is Dortchen Wild (Dorothea Wild)?
The young woman who told tales to the Brothers Grimm
Henriette Dorothea Wild
Dortchen Wild (1793–1867) was the daughter of a pharmacist in Kassel, Germany. She is known as one of the storytellers who told many folktales to the Brothers Grimm.
Many of the tales in Grimm's Fairy Tales are said to have come from the sisters of the Wild family. In this manga, Dortchen is the heroine of the framing scenes. She tells the brothers old tales and guides readers into each story. At the end, she encourages the brothers in their resolve to turn the old tales into a book. Her lines and the events in the framing scenes, however, are the manga's own original portrayal, based on historical fact.
She later became the wife of Wilhelm Grimm.
