Who Is King Lot of Orkney?
The king who led the rebel kings against Arthur
King Lot of Orkney is the king who rules Orkney in the far north of Britain and the husband of Morgause. He is the father of Gawain and Gaheris. Though married to Arthur's sister, he stood against the young king as an enemy.
In Episode 2, he leads the eleven kings who refuse to accept the young Arthur and rebel against him. But at the Battle of Bedegraine, he is defeated by Arthur and by the armies of King Ban and King Bors, who have crossed the sea to help. His sending his wife Morgause to court as a messenger was also a way of spying on Arthur.
In Malory's original text, he is later killed in battle by King Pellinore. This becomes the root of a long blood feud between King Lot's sons and Pellinore's family.
