Who Is Igraine (Igrayne)?
Mother of Arthur and of Morgan and her sisters
Igraine is King Arthur's mother. She was first the wife of the Duke of Tintagel in Cornwall, and she is also the mother of three daughters: Morgause, Elaine, and Morgan le Fay.
In the flashback, King Uther falls in love with her, and on the very night her husband the Duke dies in battle, she welcomes into the castle Uther disguised as her husband. She later becomes Uther's queen, but gives her newborn son to Merlin. In Episode 2, when Morgause comes to court and is revealed to be Igraine's daughter, and therefore Arthur's sister, the weight of Merlin's prophecy becomes clear.
In Malory's original text, Arthur's birth is later made known, and there is also a scene in which Igraine and her son Arthur are reunited.
