Who Is Mordred (Modred)?
The king's son prophesied to destroy the kingdom
Mordred is the son born to King Arthur and his half-sister Morgause. He is the knight who later rebels against his father and brings about the fall of Arthur's kingdom. In the manga he appears as an infant.
In Episode 2, Merlin prophesies: "That child will destroy you and your kingdom." In the original text, Arthur gathers all the noble children born on May Day, puts them on a ship, and sends them out to sea. The ship is wrecked on a rock, but Mordred alone survives and is found and raised by a man. In this manga, that part is only hinted at in a brief scene.
At the end of the legend, Mordred tries to seize the throne while Arthur is away, and in the final battle, known as the Battle of Camlann, father and son strike each other down and Mordred dies. Arthur too is gravely wounded in this battle.
