Who Is Sir Launcelot du Lake (Lancelot)?

The peerless knight of the Round Table

Lancelot du Lac

Sir Launcelot du Lake (Lancelot) is the strongest and most renowned Knight of the Round Table in the Arthurian legend. He is the son of King Ban, who rules Benwick across the sea, and because he is said to have been raised by the Lady of the Lake, he is called "Lancelot of the Lake." He is also famous for his single-hearted love for Queen Guinevere.

In Episode 6, while asleep under an apple tree, he is captured by four queens, including Morgan le Fay, who demand that he choose one of them. He refuses, out of loyalty to the queen. Escaping with the help of King Bagdemagus's daughter, he fights a long battle with Sir Turquine, who has been imprisoning Knights of the Round Table, kills him, and frees the captive knights. He then brings back a sword and a cloth from the Chapel Perilous, and refuses when the sorceress Hellawes asks him for a kiss.

Later in the legend, his love for the queen becomes the spark that splits the Knights of the Round Table apart. He is also the father of Galahad, the knight who achieves the Holy Grail.
