The knight who rose from the kitchen
Sir Gareth of Orkney
Sir Gareth is a Knight of the Round Table, the youngest son of King Lot of Orkney and the younger brother of Gawain. Because he hid his name and worked in the royal kitchen, he is known as the 'Kitchen Knight.'
In Episode 7 of this manga, he works for a year in the kitchen at Camelot without revealing who he is, and Sir Kay mockingly nicknames him 'Beaumains' ('fair hands'). He takes on the quest of the maiden Lynette, who has come asking for help to save her sister's castle. Though she insults him the whole way, he defeats the Black, Green, Red, and Blue (Indigo) Knights one after another, and finally wins a long battle against the Red Knight, Ironside.
In the original, he later marries Lyonesse. He deeply admires Launcelot, but near the end of the story he meets a sad death, killed by Launcelot, who does not recognize him, when Launcelot comes to rescue the queen.
