Who Is Morgan le Fay (Morgana)?
Arthur's sorceress half-sister, who plots against his life
Morgan le Fay is King Arthur's half-sister and a powerful sorceress. She is the daughter of Igraine and the Duke of Tintagel, and in Malory's original text she became skilled in magic while studying at a nunnery. She is the wife of King Uriens of Gore and the mother of Uwaine (Yvain).
In Episode 5, she gives the real Excalibur and its scabbard to her lover, the knight Accolon, while sending a fake to her brother Arthur, hoping Accolon will kill the king in a duel. When she tries to kill her sleeping husband Uriens, she is stopped by her son Uwaine. While fleeing, she steals the scabbard that keeps its wearer from bleeding and throws it into a lake. In Episode 6, she and three other queens capture the sleeping Launcelot.
Although she is portrayed as Arthur's enemy, at the very end of the legend she appears as one of the queens who carry the wounded Arthur by barge to Avalon.
