Who Is Sir Ector?

The faithful knight who raised Arthur

Sir Ector is King Arthur's foster father and the father of Kay. He took the newborn Arthur from Merlin and had him nursed by his own wife.

In Episode 1, when he learns that Arthur has drawn the sword from the stone, he first makes Kay swear to tell the truth. When Arthur pulls the sword out again before his eyes, Ector kneels and reveals that he is not Arthur's real father. He then asks that, once Arthur is king, he make his foster brother Kay his seneschal, and Arthur promises to do so.

Rather than using his position as the king's foster father for his own gain, he asks only for his son's future, and is portrayed as a modest, faithful man. He is a different person from Sir Ector de Maris, Launcelot's brother and a Knight of the Round Table.
