Who Is Mr. Shepherd?
The lawyer who arranges renting out Kellynch
Mr. Shepherd is Sir Walter Elliot's lawyer and the Elliot family's agent. He is careful and polite, and skilled at guiding a conversation without offending his employer.
He gently raises the reality of the family's debts and, flattering Sir Walter's vanity, hints that he should rent out Kellynch Hall. Noticing that naval officers will be coming ashore now that the war is over, he introduces Admiral Croft as a tenant.
His daughter is Mrs. Clay, and both father and daughter become involved in the Elliot family's fortunes.
