Who Is Charles Hayter?
The young curate who loves Henrietta
Charles Hayter is a cousin of the Musgroves and the eldest son of the Hayter family of Winthrop. He is a young curate who had an understanding with Henrietta Musgrove.
When Captain Wentworth arrives and Henrietta's feelings waver, he grows uneasy and keeps his distance. In one scene, he scolds Anne's little nephew Walter for clinging to her back, but the boy will not listen, and Charles is left sulking when Wentworth rescues her first. Later, he and Henrietta make up.
He is portrayed as a serious, unassuming young man, a clear contrast to the dashing Captain Wentworth.
