勸導（珍·奧斯汀）故事大綱
《勸導》（Persuasion）是英國作家珍·奧斯汀生前完成的最後一部長篇小說，在她於1817年去世的那年年底出版。故事發生在1814年前後的英國。女主角安·艾略特今年27歲。八年前、她19歲時，曾與年輕的海軍軍官菲德烈·溫特沃斯訂婚，但如同母親般照顧她的羅素夫人勸她：「嫁給一個沒有財產、前途未卜的人太危險了。」安聽從勸說，解除了婚約。此後她始終忘不了他，獨自把悔恨藏在心底過日子。
故事從安的父親華特·艾略特爵士開始。這位以外貌和家世為傲的準男爵負債累累，只好把祖傳的凱林奇莊園租給別人，全家搬到巴斯。承租莊園的是克勞夫特將軍，而他的妻子，竟然正是溫特沃斯的姊姊。安暫住在妹妹瑪麗嫁去的上克勞斯，成了默斯格羅夫一家人傾訴心事的對象。就在這時，在戰爭中屢立戰功、累積了財富的溫特沃斯上校，前來拜訪姊姊夫婦。
睽違八年的重逢，溫特沃斯對安冷淡而疏遠，甚至說她「變得判若兩人」。他身邊圍繞著默斯格羅夫家活潑的姊妹亨麗埃塔與露易莎，尤其稱讚意志堅強的露易莎。這番話，被隔著樹籬的安聽得一清二楚。然而，他替安把纏在她背上胡鬧的外甥拉開，又讓走累了的安搭上姊姊的馬車——這些不經意的小體貼，讓安的心再次動搖。

Then, at dusk, a single word drifts through a doorway — "navy" — and for one moment, Anne's eyes waver.
