阿波羅
阿波羅是希臘神話中的神，掌管預言、音樂、光明等。各地都有他的神諭所，人們會到那裡聆聽神的指示。
在故事中，賽姬的父王派使者前往米利都的阿波羅神諭所。阿波羅用一首詩回答：「把女兒當作新娘，放在山頂的岩石上。她的丈夫不是凡人之子，而是一個會用翅膀四處飛翔、像毒蛇一樣可怕的怪物，連眾神之王朱比特都怕他。」這道神諭把賽姬帶到岩山上，再帶進看不見的宮殿。後來姊姊們也搬出這道神諭，讓賽姬感到不安。
作者阿普列烏斯還開玩笑地寫道：身為希臘神的阿波羅，為了這個故事的作者，特地用拉丁文說出了神諭。

Psyche is sent to a mountain crag to marry a husband who isn't human. Instead of falling apart, she comforts her weeping parents and leads the wedding procession on her own two feet. Left alone on the rock, she gives herself to the West Wind and is carried to a golden palace run by servants who are nothing but voices. Then night falls, and something comes toward her in the dark.
