Who Is Apollo?
God of the silver bow who sends plague
Phoebus Apollo
Apollo is the Greek god of archery, plague, and prophecy, the son of Zeus and the goddess Leto. Known as "the god of the silver bow," he sides with Troy in the Trojan War.
In Episode 1, he hears the prayer of his priest Chryses, who has been insulted by Agamemnon, and grows angry. With his bow and quiver on his shoulders, he comes down from Olympus like the night and shoots arrows of plague into the Greek camp. First the mules and dogs fall, then the soldiers, and for nine days the fires burning the dead never stop.
Once the girl is returned to her father and sacrifices and hymns are offered to him, Apollo's anger cools and the plague ends.
