Who Is Patroclus (Patroklos)?
Achilles' closest friend
Patroclus is Achilles' dearest friend and his companion in battle. He is the son of Menoetius, and he is said to have grown up alongside Achilles since boyhood.
His role in Episode 1 is brief: at Achilles' request, he leads Briseis out of the tent and hands her over to Agamemnon's heralds. He is shown quietly following orders at the side of his furious friend.
In the later books of the Iliad, the fate of Patroclus changes Achilles profoundly. Whether Achilles, who has left the fighting, will return to the battlefield depends on the story of this friend.
