Who Is Agamemnon?
Commander-in-chief of the Greek army
Agamemnon is the king of Mycenae and the commander-in-chief of the allied Greek army that attacked Troy. He is the son of Atreus and the elder brother of Menelaus, king of Sparta.
In Episode 1, he threatens Chryses, the priest of Apollo who has come to ransom his daughter, and sends him away, bringing a plague down on his own army. When he is forced to return the girl, Chryseis, he takes Briseis from Achilles to make up for his loss, driving the army's greatest hero out of the fight.
According to later legend, Agamemnon returned home after the Trojan War only to be murdered by his wife Clytemnestra and her accomplices, a story that became a subject of Greek tragedy.
