Who Is Zeus?
King of the Olympian gods
Zeus is the supreme god of Greek mythology and the king of the gods of Olympus. He wields the thunderbolt and holds great power over the fates of gods and humans alike.
In Episode 1, Thetis clasps his knees with her plea. After a long silence, he promises to give strength to the Trojans until Achilles' honor is restored. When he nods beneath his dark brows, great Mount Olympus shakes. His wife Hera sees through the promise and confronts him, casting an awkward mood over the feast of the gods.
According to an ancient story, this scene of Zeus nodding served as the model for the sculptor Phidias when he made the great statue of Zeus at Olympia.
