The elder brother who shielded Yoshitsune at Yashima
Satō Saburōbyōe Tsuginobu
Satō Tsuginobu is the elder of the two warrior brothers from Ōshū whom Fujiwara no Hidehira sent to serve Yoshitsune, and the older brother of Satō Tadanobu.
He follows Yoshitsune out of Hiraizumi and fights in the battles against the Taira. At the Battle of Yashima he shields his lord Yoshitsune, is struck by an enemy arrow, and dies. His death is told mainly in The Tale of the Heike.
Together with his younger brother Tadanobu, who later took Yoshitsune's place at Yoshino, the Satō brothers are remembered as loyal retainers who gave their lives for Yoshitsune.
