织田信长（上总介）是谁？
立志统一天下的革命者
织田信长是日本战国时代尾张（今爱知县西部）的武将（1534—1582年）。他年轻时衣着举止怪异，被人传为“大傻瓜”。后来他在桶狭间之战中击败今川义元，打开了通往统一天下的道路。但在1582年，他遭家臣明智光秀背叛，死于本能寺之变。
在本作中，他是第1话和第2话的主角。第1话里，他与岳父斋藤道三在正德寺会面：路上还是一贯放浪不羁的打扮，到了会见时却换上正装出现，让在场众人大吃一惊。第2话里，今川大军逼近的前一夜，他不谈作战就去睡觉；天亮时跳起幸若舞《敦盛》中“人间五十年”一段后出阵，在桶狭间讨取了义元。
详细记录信长一生的史料，有家臣太田牛一所写的《信长公记》。本作的第1话和第2话也主要以这部记录为依据。
