織田信長（上總介）是誰？
立志統一天下的革命者
織田信長是日本戰國時代尾張（今愛知縣西部）的武將（1534～1582年）。年輕時因為打扮和舉止古怪，被人譏為「大傻瓜」。後來他在桶狹間之戰擊敗今川義元，開闢了通往統一天下的道路。但在1582年，他遭家臣明智光秀背叛，死於本能寺之變。
在本作中，他是第1話和第2話的主角。第1話裡，他在正德寺與岳父齋藤道三會面。一路上他仍是平常那副放蕩不羈的打扮，到了會面時卻換上正式禮服現身，讓周圍的人大吃一驚。第2話裡，今川大軍逼近的前夜，他不談作戰計畫就去睡了。天亮時，他跳起幸若舞〈敦盛〉中「人間五十年」一段後出陣，在桶狹間討取了義元。
詳細記錄信長一生的史料，有家臣太田牛一所寫的《信長公記》。本作的第1話和第2話也主要根據這部記錄。
