弗雷德里克·温特沃斯
弗雷德里克·温特沃斯是《劝导》中与安妮相对的男主人公，一名海军军官。1806年，他因在圣多明各海战中立功刚刚晋升为中校，就在那时与安妮相识并订婚。
当时的他既没有财产，也没有有权势的亲戚，婚约被安妮一方解除。愤怒的他回到海上，在战争中屡建战功，升为上校，又凭借俘获敌舰的奖金积累了财富。八年后，他来上克罗斯探望姐姐克罗夫特夫人，对安妮只是点头致意，态度疏远。他被马斯格罗夫家的姐妹围着讲海上的故事，还说自己喜欢意志坚定的女性。
尽管如此，他会帮被孩子缠住的安妮解围，也会让走累的安妮坐上姐姐姐夫的马车。嘴上冷淡，行动中却流露出体贴。他所看重的“意志坚定”，也与整部小说的主题紧密相连。
