Who Is Saito Tatsuoki (Tatsuoki Saito)?
The young lord who lost his castle and Mino
Saito Tatsuoki was a Sengoku-period warlord of Mino Province (today's southern Gifu Prefecture) and the grandson of Saito Dosan. He inherited the family headship at a young age after the death of his father, Yoshitatsu. His home base was Inabayama Castle, and he came under repeated attack from Oda Nobunaga of neighboring Owari.
In this manga he appears as the lord of Mino, fighting the Oda side. His retainer Takenaka Hanbei seizes his castle with only a handful of men, and although it is later returned, he loses Inabayama Castle in 1567, partly because the Mino Triumvirate has gone over to Nobunaga, and he is driven out of Mino. Whether his name appears in the Taikoki's Sunomata section has not yet been confirmed.
Even after losing Mino, he kept resisting Nobunaga in various places. He is said to have died in battle in 1573 while with the Asakura clan in Echizen Province, in his mid-twenties.
