Who Is Naka (Omandokoro) (Hideyoshi's mother)?
Hideyoshi's mother, said to have dreamed of the sun
Omandokoro
Naka, also known as Omandokoro, was the mother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. She came from Nakamura in Owari Province, and when her son became kampaku (imperial regent) she was called Omandokoro, an honorific for the mother of a kampaku. "Naka" is the name commonly given to her, but it is not confirmed in reliable records.
The Taikoki says she conceived her son after dreaming that the sun entered her bosom. The story makes the ruler's birth seem special, and it may have been told in part to glorify a man who later held great power. This manga also treats the dream as something "said to have happened."
Her husband is given as Chikuami, though some theories name a different man as Hideyoshi's real father. She died in 1592. Hideyoshi, who was at Nagoya in Kyushu, is said to have hurried back when he got the news but did not arrive in time.
