Who Is Hazama Jujiro Mitsuoki (Hazama Mitsuoki)?
Young ronin who struck Kira first
Hazama Jujiro was one of the 47 Ronin, the young man said to have been the first to strike Lord Kira Kozuke-no-Suke with his spear and to have taken his head.
He joined the raid together with his father, Hazama Kihei. On the night of the raid, the ronin found Kira missing from his bedroom, searched the whole mansion, and discovered an old man hiding in a charcoal shed. Records say Jujiro thrust at him with his spear and Takebayashi Tadashichi then cut him down.
As the ronin withdrew, Kira's head was offered before their lord's grave at Sengakuji Temple. Jujiro also committed seppuku after the raid.
