Who Is King of the Moon Capital (King of the Celestial Beings)?
Leader of the celestial beings who come for Kaguya
The King of the Moon Capital is the leader of the celestial beings who come near the end of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter to take Princess Kaguya back to the Moon. He has no name in the original text, which describes him only as "a person who seemed to be a king."
On the night of the fifteenth day of the eighth month, he descends with a flying carriage and a host of celestial beings and stands in the air a little above the ground. The Emperor's two thousand soldiers had their bows ready, but when the celestial beings appeared, their strength drained away and they could not fight. The king tells the old bamboo cutter that Kaguya had been sent down to earth because she had committed a wrongdoing, and that now her time is over, so they have come for her. Doors and lattices then open by themselves without anyone touching them.
The celestial beings brought with them the robe of feathers of heaven and an elixir of immortality. It is said that whoever puts on the robe loses all feeling for the people of the earth.
