Taibai Jinxing
Taibai Jinxing is the god of the planet Venus, the morning and evening star, and an elder minister of Heaven. In Journey to the West he appears as a gentle old man with white hair.
When Wukong's violence is reported to Heaven, he advises the Jade Emperor that instead of fighting the monkey, it would be better to invite him to Heaven, give him a post, and keep him close. This policy of winning over a rebel with an official appointment is called zhao'an. He goes to the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit himself to bring Wukong to Heaven. After Wukong storms home in anger over the Bimawen post, Taibai suggests giving him the title Great Sage Equal to Heaven, even if only in name, and serves as messenger once again.
His role is to avoid fighting and settle things through talk, and he also appears later in the novel during Tripitaka's journey.
