Who Is The Man with Sore Eyes?
An easygoing townsman given a dog's eyes
Man with Sore Eyes (Inu no Me)
The Man with Sore Eyes is the hero of the classic rakugo tale Inu no Me, an easygoing, trusting townsman who visits an eye doctor to cure an eye disease.
In Episode 6, the doctor takes out his eyeballs to wash them, a dog eats them, and he ends up with the dog's eyes put in instead. Yet he never suspects a thing and is delighted that "I can see better than before." A few days later he comes back to say thank you and delivers the punchline: "The only thing is, whenever I see a tree, I feel like lifting one leg." Picture a dog lifting its leg to pee on a tree and the joke makes sense.
