Who Is Count Przobossky?

The nobleman who gives the Baron his famous horse

Count Przobossky is a nobleman with an estate in Lithuania who gives the Baron a superb horse, setting up the story of the half horse.

His estate has a wild young horse no one can ride. The Baron, a guest there, vaults onto its back in one bound and jumps through a window into the tearoom. He then puts the horse through its paces on the table where the ladies are having tea, without breaking a single piece of the tea set. Impressed, the Count presents him with the horse to ride in the war against the Turks under the command of Count Münnich.

This becomes the Lithuanian Horse, which later survives losing its back half. The Count's scene is brief, but without his gift, the Baron's greatest battlefield tale would never have happened.
