Who Is Hecate (Hekate)?

The goddess Zeus honored above all

Hecate is a goddess in Greek mythology, the only daughter of Perses and Asteria. In the Theogony she is praised at length as the goddess whom Zeus honored above all others.

Since the age of the Titans, Hecate held a share of honor in the earth, the sea, and the starry sky. When Zeus came to power, he did not take it away; instead, he honored her even more. When people pray to her, whether in war, judgment, contests, fishing, or tending livestock, she can give aid to whomever she wishes, and can also take it away. She shows how the new king Zeus protects the honors of those on his side.

In later times she became known as a goddess linked with magic, the moon, crossroads, and the night.
