Who Is Takeda Nobushige (Tenkyu)?
The Takeda deputy commander who died protecting his brother
Takeda Tenkyu Nobushige
Takeda Nobushige (1525–1561) was the younger brother of Takeda Shingen and a samurai commander who supported the Takeda clan. He was also known as "Tenkyu," a name taken from his official title. He was killed in 1561 at the Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima.
In Episodes 3 and 4, Nobushige appears as a commander of the main army on the plain of Hachimanbara. When the fog lifts and the Uesugi forces attack, he fights to protect his brother Shingen's command post and loses his life. The Kōyō Gunkan describes his death as a deeply mourned loss.
He is also known for a set of house rules said to have been written by him, describing how retainers should conduct themselves. He is a different person from Sanada Nobushige (better known as Sanada Yukimura), who shares the same given name.
