Who Is Oda Nobukatsu (Kanjuro) (Oda Nobuyuki)?
Nobunaga's younger brother, who rebelled against him twice
Oda Nobukatsu
Oda Nobukatsu was the younger brother of Oda Nobunaga, a warrior called "Kanjuro" in the Shinchō Kōki. He is also widely known as "Nobuyuki," but documents from his own time show names such as "Nobukatsu." He fought his brother for leadership of the clan and was finally killed on his brother's orders.
At their father's funeral, he behaves with perfect courtesy in a neat formal vest and hakama trousers, and is compared with his brother, who throws incense at the altar. In time, backed by the Hayashi brothers and Shibata Gonroku (Katsuie), he turns against Nobunaga and is defeated at the Battle of Ino in 1556. Their mother pleads for his life and he is spared once, but he plots rebellion again. This time Shibata informs Nobunaga, and when Kanjuro goes to Kiyosu Castle to visit his brother, who is feigning illness, he is killed.
The year of his death is given as either 1557 or 1558. His son, Tsuda Nobusumi, was later raised up as a commander under Nobunaga.
