Who Is Omoikane?
The god of wisdom who planned the Rock Cave rescue
Omoikane-no-Kami
Omoikane (Omoikane-no-Kami) is the god of wisdom in the Kojiki and the son of Takamimusubi. Whenever the gods are in trouble, his role is to come up with a plan to solve it.
When Amaterasu shut herself in the Heavenly Rock Cave and the world went dark, the countless gods gathered at the riverbed of Ame-no-Yasukawara and asked him to devise a plan to bring her out. His plan was to make the long-crying roosters crow, have a mirror and curved jewels made and hung on a sakaki tree, recite prayers, have Ame-no-Uzume dance, and hide Ame-no-Tajikarao beside the door. In the story of the handing over of the land, the gods also consulted him about whom to send down to earth as a messenger. When Ninigi descended to earth, he joined as a companion, and Amaterasu put him in charge of the rites of worship.
As a god of wisdom, some shrines worship him as a god of learning.
