Who Is Asano Daigaku Nagahiro (Asano Nagahiro)?
Last hope for reviving the Asano house
Asano Daigaku was the younger brother of Lord Asano Takumi-no-Kami, the man Oishi Kuranosuke and the others hoped would become head of a restored Asano house of Ako after it was abolished.
When Oishi surrendered the castle, he petitioned the shogunate's officials to restore the Asano house, and he kept up the campaign from Yamashina. But in the seventh month of Genroku 15, it was decided that Asano Daigaku would be placed in the custody of the main Asano family in Hiroshima, closing the road to restoration. In response, Oishi called the Maruyama Conference and decided on the attack.
After the raid, Asano Daigaku is said to have eventually been pardoned and to have kept the Asano name alive as a hatamoto.
