Who Is Suseribime (Suseri-hime)?
Susanoo's daughter who protected her husband
Suseri-bime
Suseribime (Suseri-bime) is a goddess in the Kojiki, the daughter of the storm god Susanoo and the wife of Okuninushi (Onamuji).
When Onamuji fled to Ne-no-Kuni, the underworld, she met his eyes and fell for him on the spot, then told her father, "A very fine god has come." When her father Susanoo made his new son-in-law sleep in a room full of snakes, and then in a room of centipedes and bees, she gave her husband a magic scarf (hire) that calmed the snakes and insects. When Susanoo set the field on fire around him, she thought he had died and went looking for him in tears, carrying funeral items. When her husband was ordered to pick centipedes out of Susanoo's hair, she gave him muku berries and red clay, a trick to put her father at ease. In the end, her husband carried her on his back as they escaped the underworld, and her father accepted her as his rightful wife.
The Kojiki also records that she became fiercely jealous whenever her husband later visited other goddesses, and preserves a scene in which the couple exchange poems and make up.
